Think they sign for cash at Town as well.  We have seen a very recent example of that with the brow fella he would chase a pound coin down Bransty hill.

We do have an apparent problem though locally  getting amateurs to join us.  That needs turning around.

Dear VG, I think players have always been a touch "mercenary" and I don't mean to use that in a totally negative way, they have a short shelf life, injuries can ruin them and general team form can be a negative also. But nowadays the contract system doesn't make for loyalty and that is a fact we have to live with. However at Whitehaven I DO think we have loyalty, likes of Seeds, calvert, Hill etc etc [and of course the fans] and that is something the club can always build on!!

How can you say it's mercenary? The career of a rugby league player is very short. What's wrong with players trying to get a good deal for themselves? If you were offered more money by another employer would you leave your job, I'm sure I would! If they didn't want the money they'd still be playing with their mates in a Saturday afternoon but it's a choice they make and they sacrifice their Saturday nights out during the season.

that's it in a nut shell kingkenny couldn't have put it better myself, just to add howard played elsewhere, and maybe seedsy's  and craig calvert's family did not wish to leave the county and for them to give up good jobs when your rugby day's could easily end on a cold wet sunday afternoon in batley or keighly is a no brainer

So you condone the behaviour of said player ( dont think we should ever mention his name again on here) to sign 1 contract and then sign another after he's been offered a bigger slice of the pie. Plus had he come to haven you and the rest of your town cronies would not have gave him a hard time about chasing money then your kidding yourself

Most players talk to other clubs coming up to the end of there contracts. Rudd, Calvett and Mcavoy have all talked in the past with Town or Barrow or both so as to get the best contract out of Haven they can.

Lets look at the clues, if Mattinson had signed for Haven outright, Haven supporters would have been gloating. Mattinson is a class above Smith (who is a descent player) and two classes above Sice who has been more of an impact player in the Champ 1 league when he has been brought off the bench when teams have tired (but is not a team player). Mattinson is a class player who unfortunately for him when he puts himself about has been unlucky to pick up injuries.

What a childish post. I'm surprised that people haven't yet cottoned on to the fact that our BOD yet again behaved with total and utter incompetence in this matter. If they'd acted properly and legitimately then there wouldn't even be an issue. But they didn't, which is why they are keeping quiet and hoping it goes away. Still, its easier to blame the player and throw some vitriol in his direction isn't it ?

So it wasn't a general post, it was aimed at an individual then? Don't you think the fact that Town stuffed haven out of sight while missing quite a few first choice players might have also come into his thinking? You can't blame the lad for trying to get more money while staying with a better team.

Won't be allowed to post it on here. Lets just say if we had acted properly then do you not think we would have been kicking up a fuss and chasing compensation and/or accusing Town and the player of breaking a contract, instead of saying nothing and meekly letting the matter go ? We broke the rules (by a long way), we got caught out, we have rolled over to avoid any further action against us. People can blame Matty all they like, its no skin off my nose, but there are members of our BOD who are quite happy to sit back and let him take all the flak as it diverts attention from their culpability in the matter for which they should be ashamed.
