http://www.newsandstar.co.uk/sport/haven/lee-doran-injury-concern-after-whitehaven-triumph-1.1032447?referrerPath=sport/havenHaven built on solid performances in their two pre-season outings to beat the City Knights 32-22 and get their season off to a flyer.
And they are now hoping for good news over tough back-rower Doran, ahead of the trip to Keighley.
“It’s not as bad as first thought. They thought he might have torn a muscle, but it looks like he got a knock on the sternum. We will get it checked out and go from there,” said coach Dave Woods, who admitted the early injury knocked Haven’s plans out of kilter.
“It puts pressure on everyone else when you haven't got an extra sub. We were going to throw James Cameron in to the back-row at some stage, just to get some match fitness.
“But we didn’t expect to do it so early, and it disrupted everything we were about to do.”
Haven led 32-12 with only four minutes left, but conceded two late tries to allow York a bonus point.
“It was only our third game and we can only get better,” added Woods. “We’ve just got to be smarter.
“We have a game plan and have to see it through to the end. We battled hard early and that set us up to get a lead. We put our foot on the throat, then relaxed it. You can’t do that. But it’s always good to get three points, especially early, and you want to make sure you push on from that.”
