Good post townster except for the last line that is, surely the world cup will bring money into the town, each team and their fans will need to be fed, waterered and kept for the night.
Given the post as a whole, I must agree with Sean, it is difficult to generate any interest in a team that you simply don't support, I learn't this at the magic weekend, I just couldn't get into Castleford against Wakefield, it looked inferior, and yes the Hull derby too, although I did have some support for London against the Catalans.
Simple fact is, you can only get excited for the team you support, and internationals can hold no sway sometimes.
Does this make Sean Narrow-minded, or bigoted? I think not, it makes him a dyed in the wool Whitehaven Fan and that is that.
I will be at Wires next home game against Wigan, but I won't be at the England Exiles match at the same stadium, am I a turncoat, a traitor or an imbecile? I think not, Wire is in my blood same as Haven is in Seans  we are cut from the same cloth and that's what makes us true fans!

cheers matt good post thats why i will be at sheffield sunday spending my money on whitehaven and not thinking about wasting it on scotland. there is much more haven games ahead before that show up the road and wembley and grand finals ahead.

Hope it all goes well Sean, dunno much about Sheffield but if they still play at Bramhall lane, then you are at least in an all seater stadium, best of luck to the haven pal.
I've only ever been there the once, I went on a Christmas shopping trip to the meadowhall, massive place that pal, you can seriously get lost in there, we had to leave it was that packed, we got a tram and toured the city, looks a bit grim to me and probably one of Britains most nondescript cities, but we did see the Hallam arena, Castle street city centre, the meadowhall and Hillsborough, by chance there was a big derby that day, utd v Weds, and the city centre was full of bobbies, lol.

Just to add that i will attend at DP and would have attended at the wreck if the games had been there, and as for some posters thinking Town are to make out of this game it should be noted that this is a RFL run affair, marketed by them, organised by them and they take all the money etc, DP is just a venue that the World Cup hosts, (RFL) are using, if the truth be known it might actually be costing town money.   Jack O'Malley
Dear Townster, usually home venues got 10% of the gate is this also been changed????

To beermat, i realise the town of Workington will make money from the game, the 'town' i refer to is the WTRLFC town, am not sure about the 10% thingy, i only know that the club are having to stand certain costs in relation to the game, but getting a £450.000 refit out of it is not to bad a deal in my book.  ;D

Hosting teams should get 10% of the gate but as I say RFL could have changed that rule, there should be NO associated costs to the hosting club these expenses should be automatically deferred from gate receipts, that is unless Town decide to go that extra mile and do some stuff that they are not obliged to.Can't really see the games putting a vast sum into the local economy this was another myth CBC used but it doesn't stand up to scrutiny.
