What happens if you run out of sweets?
Can you just give them a rotten old apple instead? Maybe you could ration out the grapes, just give them one each and make them last, or cut a tangerine into segments and give them a segment each, don't give them a full one, theres twelve segments in a tangerine.
Don't give them any money, they might come back again next year, and if it's dark enough, perhaps you could drop a few pebbles into their bucket, and say, ' Here ya go, there's a couple of gobstoppers for ya'.
