based on one club in the Championship. We can probably scratch a decent team out of the 2 teams.

Makes you laugh, the RFL claiming to support Rugby League in West Cumbria, when the main thing they have DONE this year is come up with a system of five teams to be relegated.

Perhaps they are only now starting to see the repercussions of this new league restructuring, previously they were blinded by greed, and are simply paying lip service to the fans of Cumbria, they would rather line the pockets of a swimming coach than support Cumbrian Rugby league, and after this little soiree, it will be every man for himself again.

I have to totally disagree with BKM, it's just wishful thinking if you think they will create a merged team with 'Guaranteed SL status', it doesn't work like that any more, the RFL wont prop anyone up anymore, just look at how Bradford, London and Catalans are now struggling once the support of the RFL and their guaranteed SL place have been taken away.

This new restructuring will finish off a lot of clubs and ruin our game for good if we are not careful, Catalans wont bother with SL2, and London will also go to the wall, not to mention the Championship clubs already struggling with this new system.

Guaranteed places in any league system [not franchising] is a contradiction in terms, they are bringing back P/R so they can't in the same breath 'guarantee' anybody a place in any of the three leagues and nor should they.
Dear Flip Flop, what is a bigger worry is the hidden hand of some our administrators. What if one club goes to the wall [we can only play in one borough] and in five years it still doesn't work and the new club folds what then these bright ideas. There is nothing that either club couldn't do on their own if they re organise their respective clubs from top to bottom that this report will acheive. Unless of course there is a white night over the hill IE Sellafield, which may pledge the earth now and in the time of a change of government has to withdraw - it happened once before. The respective clubs have to pick themselves up not wait on table crumbs from Leeds. Are they doing similar things with Batley/Dewsbury, Rochdale/Oldham [and throw Swinton in again] why are they dedicated to getting rid of clubs instead of directing the investment inward to them instead of lining the pockets of consultants - which they have consistently done since about 1973 under the direction of Brian Snape that was a fiasco as well.

That's because the clubs will not change the way they are run no defence to flip flop there by the way. Sorry FF but I will never agree with you on the M subject.

If you're against a merger then No more than ever it's crucial to go down to the recre this season and support the lads.

Something needs to happen, because in a couple of years both teams will be languishing in championship 1 playing a poor standard of rugby watched by a couple of hundred diehards in rapidly decaying grounds.

Dear davo 5, I think that is the understatement of the year, but the future is in the hands of the clubs themselves at Whitehaven we need a massive reorganisation and re launch of the club with new innovative ideas but that isn't happeneing and we are not as a club taking our own destiny in our own hands.
