Bill played great at Whitehaven, and so did Dennis his brother and Sol, all ex Town players and when I was younger they seemed a real good laugh as well.Bill played for us when we went top of the league in 69/70, in what I still consider to be the best Haven side I have seen.Roper, Burns, Cottier, McFarlane, Hunter.I could go on but believe me they were quality players.I remember Bill scored a try at the Kells end and for a great big bloke he could shift, the roar that went up was a tribute to how much the Haven fans took to him.Bill also specialised in playing the villain on field to the delight of the home fans.A real character, a very sad loss.
