I'm a little confused after reading this it seems that rugby league teams are being discriminated against. Coaches, Athletes and Entertainers Coming to Canada
Our team of immigration professionals based in Ottawa, Canada has developed a particular expertise in securing appropriate legal status in Canada for coaches, athletes and entertainers. Several Canadian national sporting bodies trust us with their immigration matters. We have helped well-known musicians and performers quickly overcome barriers to a smooth entry to Canada.

In most cases, foreign athletes, coaches and entertainers can easily secure entry to Canada for limited duration purposes. Most will not require a work permit to participate in competitions, shows, concerts, or other events. However, complications can arise in particular cases—for instance, if a person is inadmissible to Canada due to a past criminal conviction. These are the situations where our professional advice will make the difference.

Foreign nationals coming from abroad to work in Canada for a protracted period to coach athletes in Canada require a work permit. While exempt from the requirement of a Labour Market Opinion, which is normally needed to secure a work permit, the coach must, among other things, prove their professional credentials and produce a valid job offer from a Canadian sporting organization. Our team can help ensure that no details are missed.

The Immigration Law Group at Perley-Robertson, Hill & McDougall LLP a proven track record of helping coaches, athletes and entertainers come to Canada on the proper legal status. Please contact us for more information on our services or to set up a consultation..

My thoughts that it's not worth the hassle. The odds in all ways are stacked against us

It's not a malarkey but the laws of Canada

In any case a visa obtained this year remains valid until your passport expires so it won't be anywhere near a big an issue for the next visit

Listening to Cumbria radio after the game the presenter suggested many sides could boycott a trip to Canada if players were refused entry. Crarey apparently hinted this if Barrow were faced in a similar situation. Surely most sides have players with petty convictions that would mean a visit to the Canadian Embassy.

If true could the RFL not agree something with the Canadian authorities where all teams could send there strongest sides with dispensation given to players who fall short of criteria. After all Ryan Bailey got in

Barrow made a real mess of it. The other, supposedly smaller, clubs who have gone haven't had the same issues as Barrow

That isn't true, a few clubs have went with weakened teams due to work issues.  Hunslet especially.  It isn't just about visa's.

As the RFL pushed for Toronto in to this league they should have had someone designated to help the clubs sort out the visas ect, but as usual they have just left the clubs to get on with it,

You can't apply for visas until you know the date you are to travel abroad

It doesn't make sense fan can come to Canada on there passport yet players need a visa, NBA teams some of who have European and Asian players can also come on there passports no visa required.

Players are working and earning that's why they need a visa
