Why oh why don't the RFL do the obvious, recognise that there are two classes of team in our league and so do the sensible thing and re--organsie League One.
Two divisions, based on the present division split at the end of our current regular season would put 8 teams in each new division......playing home and away would give 14 games instead of the present 18. It would allow the new, less able teams in the lower division to develop while playing against each other with obviously better chances of winning games, instead of being faced with potentionally unwinnable games against the likes of Toronto (this season), Barrow, haven and the rest.
At the end of the regular season, the bottom three teams in League One (A), play off against the top three teams in League One (B) in a mini league, to promote and relegate say two teams. This gives these teams another 10 games, totaling 24 games in the season.
Meanwhile the remaining 5 top teams in League One (A) play off as now in a Super 5 format, home and away, (8 more games), with the top team then going straight up, and 2 later plays 5 and 3 plays 4 to decide who then play off finally against each other for the second promotion spot to The Championship.
That would give the eventual second placed promotion team 24 games in the season the same as the present set up.
The big benifits would be :-
League One (B) teams play against teams of a similar standard, so have a better 'improvement chance' and have an added incentive of promotion.
League One (A) teams likewise
The number of league games are similar in number to now.
There would be no unfair fixturing throughout the season where some teams don't play each other home and away.
The two leagues would be more competative throughout the season.
Two teans would be fighting for promotion from each 'division' and two trying to avoid relegation from League One (A)
I think this would work, (someone tell me if not / needs adjusted) AND would provide a more competative and evenly matched divisional setup.
