There is definitely a buzz growing after the cup exploits, which can only be maintained by the players. We play like Sunday we match anyone, may not win them all but should be “in” every game until final whistle.

Who remembers the Cup Game in 1968/69 Keighley 23 Whitehaven 22

Jefferson kicked 7 goals and they scored 3 tries, we scored 6 tries and kicked 2 goals, and a Barrow referee who penalised out of the game

Horrible result to drive home with

Yes, I was there KCR.
It was played on Sat 25th Jan 1969 (Burns Night).
Mr Wood from Barrow area sent off Bill Martin who decided it was time to protect his team mates after a Keighley player hit everything above a daisy with complete freedom! The ref decided to give Haven a penalty just inside the Haven half almost on time and Ike Southward stepped up to try to give Haven a very unexpected victory after scoring several quick tries. We were at the Keighley end of the ground and it looked like a cracking kick only to just pass the right upright DOH!
Mr Wood blew up almost immediately to relieved gasps of Keighley fans.
We got back to Haven bus station about 9 pm and I bought the Barra Mail with the Headline "Haven lose in a ding-dong battle".
I still have that paper somewhere.

Remember Dave Hazledon leaping over a player to score a try. They had a great goal kicker called Brian Jefferson who was kicking them from all over if I remember.

Well done HWL spot on in every detail

I also remember the photograph well and Ike Southwards kick at the end to try and make amends by the ref

Jefferson was nearly as good as our John Mckewon
