Whitehaven RL are this afternoon delighted to announce the signing of Challenge Cup Winner Paul Wood who is coming out of retirement to join Carl Forster's squad and will play for the club for free.

The utility forward played 15 years for Warrington Wolves in Super League making 237 appearances in the Primrose & Blue scoring 38 tries. He made the move to Featherstone Rovers in 2015 making 15 appearances. Wood was part of the Warrington team in 2010 & 2012 who won the Challenge Cup at Wembley. He was also part of the Warrington side in 2012 who lost the Super League Grand Final where Paul ruptured his right testicle in the first minute of the second half but played on.

Paul will take no money from playing for the club and is available to link up the squad immediately and goes straight into contention for this weekend's clash with Bradford Bulls.

I really hope he can do a job plus he’s playing for free, maybe only take a few weeks and he’ll be fit

Just everyone think for one min just what this guy will bring to this team cant wait to see him in action esp league 1 this bloke played sl most of his career the standard he will set will be phenomenal

Can’t expect too much of him, he can’t possibly be match fit and hasn’t played for 3 years

Just wondering why there is no info regarding money raised from Sunday and very few posts regarding the new consortium . I know this is off topic, just wondering if it’s my suspicious mind!!!

£1700+ IN BUCKET Collection. Was an unofficial tweet we had hit the £58000 barrier.

I would say everything else is on hold until till Shareholders met tomorrow night.

Must admit I thought we would have been updated by now.AFter SUnday we should be well over £60,000.
