Sorry, if my remarks upset you parton.marra, but there are some on here saying that the stewards should have done their job inside the ground and when the police do their job outside the ground they get "berated".   

You might not have agreed with the way they were doing their job but any berating I would suggest could only help to inflame the situation.    How many people were arrested and taken to the police station?   And how many were charged with any offences?   In the cool atmosphere of the police station rather than in a heated situation on the street decisions can be made as to whether any charges should be brought against anyone.   

The reason that there are no police at rugby league matches now and haven't been for many years is that inside the ground the clubs have to pay extra for police attention.    Outside the ground if there is likely to be any problems with public order then the officer in charge can deploy officers to that area.
