Staying in whitehaven for the Doncaster match (Sat &Sunday nights), can anyone suggest places to eat in town on both/either nights . Not looking for anything too fancy, Italian or pub food is fine, needs to be walking distance from the Chase Hotel

Thanks in anticipation

Thanks all,

Last time I was up I found a pub in Hensingham which, although looking a little date, did good pub food in an upstairs room but can not remember the name, I know it was past the Lowther Arms and on the right on the way up the hill towards what was the Whitehaven Grammar School. Anyone help out with the name?

The Globe in Hensingham Square, on the right hand side as you go up the hill.

He's right, it's the Globe.  The Richmond was all on one level and at the top of the hill (now closed down).  The Globe is a fabulous little pub
