Whitehaven RL are delighted to announce the re-signing of Scottish international Callum Phillips on a 1 year deal. Phillips is a flair player who is equally at home in the halves or hooker role and even slotted in at full back this season showing his skills as a utility player throughout the spine of the team.

Speaking about signing back on for the 2019 season Phillips said “It was tough going at times last season with the small squad we had and the amount of games we played, but we had a close group of lads and the crack was good so that carried us through and even though we just missed out on the play offs it was still a good year.

Gary and Jonty will attract a lot of local players to the club and both have great knowledge of rugby and how to manage a group of lads so I’m confident they’ll do a great job.”

Callum is the 11th confirmed player for Gary Charlton’s 2019 squad and the first since the club moved out of special measures last Friday.  With the move out of special measures the club will be looking to announce more faces over the coming weeks.

I believe the lad is class in so many ways. Apart from his natural talent on the ball and in the line, he tackles well above his stature and is always the first to chase down his own and others kick throughs. So pleased he's back with us next year....we are pulling together the basis of a decent squad, just need to keep decent young guys coming.
