The reasoning is to have a high profile person in the role to bring RL to a bigger audience. The current President, Andy Burnham, may have helped in political circles but Adams as a high profile ex footballer could take it further. He enjoys the sport, so that’s a start, and is known throughout the country, not just the North.
It appears to be working already as Craig Bellamy and Stuart Pearce have discussed his appointment and their admiration for the game on Sky Sports News. It has also gained column inches in national newspapers. Let’s hope that continues and the sport receives the exposure it should.
It is a post that was traditionally held by Club Chairmen based on their length of service on the RL Council.
Hope that helps.
