Whitehaven RL are delighted to announce the return of Scottish International Brett Phillips to Rugby League as he signs a one year deal to wear Chocolate, Blue and Gold in 2019.
Phillips who made his professional debut in 2012 with Workington Town and spent six seasons at Derwent Park. He made his international debut for Scotland in the opening match of the 2013 World Cup as the Bravehearts made it the quarter finals of the competition.
He made 145 appearances for Workington scoring 37 tries. He has made 5 appearances for Scotland scoring one try.
Head coach Gary Charlton who brought Brett to the professional game back in 2012 from his amateur club Seaton Rangers said “it’s a huge bonus for the club, he’s an enforcer down that left hand side. He’s great in defence and attack. He’s been flying as well, we’re all happy with the way he has been progressing. There’s no backward steps with Brett you know what you going to get out of him week in week out.”
Speaking after a year out of the game Brett said “It’s good to be back out there amongst all of the lads I’ve played in the same team as Jason Mossop, Marc Shackley, Kris Coward and obviously Callum (Phillips). It’s been great to get back amongst the contact, I have kept myself ticking over while out of the game but there’s something different about that. It’s been great with a good set of lads.”
The club would like to thank Shaun Drinkwater and his efforts with the Whitehaven RL 300 club who has made this signing possible. His efforts with the fund raiser have been phenomenal and it looks like the club is on for its best year so far already surpassing the 300 number mark.
