The Board of the Rugby Football League considered at last week's meeting an application to relocate Hemel Stags, and another new application to launch a club in New York.

Both applications are judged to have the potential to help deliver the RFL's strategic vision. They are at different stages, but a degree of further due diligence and assessment is required on both to ensure that the financial and business plans presented are deliverable.

In addition, the Board recognises the importance of further expansion having the support of the other clubs.

Accordingly, the Board has asked each of the consortia to present to, and take questions from, the existing Betfred Championship and League One clubs, after which the RFL will gauge support.

New York ??? Are the RFL totally mad or simply just stupid ?

Take care of the mess you are creating within the present RL structures before anything else....you're driving the game to the wall in many areas and don't seem to care.

Absolute boll**ks IMO.

Where is the suggested relocation of Hemel Stags?

league 1 would benefit from another club in an accessible location, midlands, Derbyshire or perhaps Scottish borders

Professional Blackpool team back on the agenda

A meeting will take place in Blackpool on Tuesday which will determine the next moves to try and reinstate professional rugby league in the seaside town, report League Weekly.

The former supporters club of Blackpool Borough and Blackpool Gladiators has remained in place and with fundraisers, they have continued to sponsor National Conference League clubs and professional clubs over the past decade. League Weekly claim they have already informed RFL chief executive Ralph Rimmer of their plans to rejuvenate rugby league in Blackpool

Eric Perez, the man who was behind the creation of the Toronto Wolfpack, is believed to be behind the bid to relocate League 1 side Hemel Stags.

He has previously suggested either Hamilton in Canada or Boston, USA, as possible locations.

I would be happy to see another side from over the pond whether it be New York or Canada but that would be it. We already have 2 French sides

What about the fans that have to travel to these places were heading to Wales tomorrow and struggling to get fans with us cost travel etc. If they want to come into rl play in a league in Canada or America and get established look after the teams that we have here struggling.

I’m all for expansion of the game in the heartlands and a properly run professional team again in Blackpool would be  good for the game.

Bringing in another team from North America is absolutely crazy and will do nothing to secure the future of the heartland clubs like our own.
