Whitehaven Rugby League can this afternoon announce the signing of former Great Britain international Jamie Thackray for the 2020 season.

Prop Forward Thackray has signed one a year deal to return to rugby league. Thackray has had a illustrious career playing for some of the top clubs in the British game winning the challenge cup with Hull back in 2005.

Thackray becomes the latest signing for Gary Charlton ahead of our return to the championship in 2020.

How old is Jamie now 40? 👀He's a had a great career at the top level and is experienced but is he the right player we need? Need to give hima chance  welcome to the club marra but I expected better signings tbh and that's not a dig at the club at all

We have to back the coaches on this one but I'm not sure about it I honestly thought he'd retired.

I think he will be a bench player, his experience will help our younger forewords, and I'm sure the BOD haven't broke the bank to get him, let's give him a chance to see if he can help the team.

When James Robinson signed this forum said “ We are doomed if James plays . To slow now for this level“. We know how that worked out 😂.   Give thacks a chance  .

Not sure if this is a step in the right direction.  RL is very much a young mans sport and someone of Jamie’s age against younger players in a competitive league might be a bit to much for him not to mention all the travelling unless he locates up here.

That said  he will offer a wealth of expertise and hopefully bring on some of the younger lads. Just got to get behind him and trust Charlo’s instinct. Welcome aboard  :) :)

Really bad sign bringing this bloke in.  Way past it .  I dont even think he has played for 16 months. Total waste of money.

As I said on a prior post...we must trust Charlo and see how JT involvement pans out. Like many signings....could go either way, we just have to buy into any signings until we see reasons not to through involvement or on field performances..........not make judgements (certainly at this stage anyway) through unsubstantiated opinions.
