Whitehaven are delighted to announce the re-signing of prop forward Glenn Riley. He has signed a two year deal with the Recreation Ground club.

The twenty eight year old first signed for Whitehaven in 2016 and made his debut away to Halifax on the 7th February 2016. He signed from London Broncos and had previously been at Warrington Wolves. He made fifteen Super League appearances for the Wolves over two season in 2013 and 2014. After two years at Haven he then joined Barrow Raiders after they were promoted to the Championship. He returned to Whitehaven for the 2020 season but he only appeared in two friendlies before damaging his knee in the Ike Southward Trophy game against Workington.

Riley has signed a two year deal as a thank you to the club for sticking by him. He said. “I’ve signed a two year deal as an extended thank you to the club for what they did for me and having faith in me. I dislocated my knee cap against Workington and a bit of bone fell off which meant I was unable to play for a few weeks. Then Covid ended the season before I could play. It was a shame because I’d felt good after a good pre season with the team. It’s all good now and I’ve been working on my own getting my fitness up so I’m ready for the pre season and looking forward to next season.”

Glenn made fifty one appearances for Haven, scoring five tries in his previous two seasons at the Recreation Ground.

Assistant Coach, Scott McAvoy said of his re-signing, “Great to have Glenn for another two years. An excellent trainer and very important to the teams “go forward” with his strong, no nonsense carries“

Glenn is the twenty second signed member of the 2021 Whitehaven squad.
