Whitehaven Rugby League are delighted to confirm the permanent signing of Curtis Teare for the upcoming 2023 Championship campaign.

Teare who finished his first season in the professional game at the LEL Arena in 2022 following initially joining up with Workington Town ahead of the start of the season. In his time at Haven at the back end of the season Teare made 6 appearances scoring the solitary try in our penultimate home game of the season vs London Broncos. He ended his campaign representing Cumbria in the county’s victory over Jamaica in a World Cup warm up match at Derwent Park last weekend.

Overall Curtis made 21 league and cup appearances in 2022 scoring three tries and is equally as comfortable at Centre or Winger. Curtis became the second generation of his family to play for the club following father Scott who represented Haven 39 times between 2006 and 2008 scoring scoring three tries.

Head coach Jonty Gorley spoke of the permanent acquisition of Teare saying “Curtis caused a lot of interest this off season from other clubs so to get his signature is a big thing for us. Another local signing is gonna help allow us to keep our identity as a string local player based club.
I know he enjoyed his loan spell with us at the back end of the season and he performed really well for us. He's a powerful lad who starts our sets off well. It will be great to work with Curtis and see him grow into an established championship player.”

Once again the signing of Curtis Teare has been made possible thanks to the fantastic work of the Whitehaven RL Vice Presidents.

Surely we’ve got to be looking at longer than 1 yr deals for some of these players.

How would we finance long term deals?
