Well  they seem  to  have  been  ging  up  and  up  over  the last  few  month's.  There  can't  be  many  stations  selling  for  less  than  a  100p/litre.

Not  long  ago  it  was  at  about  85p  and  in  France  it  costs  about  70p  at  the  mo.  Is  it  the  petrol  companies  or  Labours  taxes  to  blame.  It  just  seems  we  always  get hammered  at  the  pumps  and  yet  we  can't  do  anything  aout  it. >:(

It's much dearer up here than in Manchester. I'd say by about 2p a litre. IMO I don't particularly blame the petrol companies, if they can sell so cheap in places like The USA etc then why is it so dear here?

Quote
From 2007-10-01 the main road fuel (petrol and diesel) duty rate in the UK is GBP?0.5035 per litre. The rate for biodiesel and bioethanol is ?0.3035.[2]

Jet fuel used for international aviation attracts no duty, and no VAT.

Note: in the UK, Value Added Tax (VAT), currently at 17.5%, is also charged on the price of the fuel and on the duty. At a pump price of 100p/litre (typical for diesel as at October 2007), this would put the combined tax at 65.24p, (thus without tax, the retail price would be 34.76p per litre). This makes a combined tax rate of 188%.

Shocking?  :o
