Not sure this is correct. I was involved at the Playground many years ago. If memory serves me right the Playground was jointly owned by the cricket club, Whitehaven Rugby Union & the tennis club.

Was purchased years back by someone, Forget his name...had a pavillion named after him and it burned down.He bought it from Lowther or Lonsdale estates for the cricket club...Perhaps the R.U club were part of that im not sure.Either way would surely make sense for all 3 sides...even the tennis club if its still going to get together and develop that area,Into one big complex.The funding for 4 sports could be huge
