Sean Long returned home early to have talks with Terry Matterson in a daring attempt by Castleford to sign the Saint Helens No7.
Due to the on going saga with Danny Brough will he / won't he sign for Castleford, the board and Terry Matterson though not panicking thought it prudent to find a top quality replacement.
Saints have had secret talks with Alan Langer, who has made it publicly known he wishes to finish his RL career in SL with a top SL club. Alan Langers contract is up for re-newal in January 2008 but he has an opt out clause if he goes to SL and not an NRL team.
It is believed to be said by Sean Long that he has won everything in Rugby League, but has never won promotion. Long has been linked with various clubs in Aus, Cronulla being the main one but the sticking point is his heavily pregnant girlfriend.
She has inclined that their child be born and brought up in England and not Australia.
There are worrying fears of Longs signing due to the salary cap, but a plan has been formulated around this.
Castleford Tigers are due to launch their very own on-line Casino, a large proportion of the income from it would pay Longs wages, so in effect he would be a pay as you play player.
Castleford representatives have been seen in the Alwoody area looking at houses..
