Does anyone know if anything further has been agreed on the selection of championship teams for next year How many clubs and how they will be selected etc.  Assume the 10 in there now will be secure so it will be three or four from our league depending on how big the league will be.

I presume selection will be transparent and based on set criteria average crowds, reserves team, stadium development, finances etc  OR i suppose they could just put up the top three teams i.e league winner and two grand finalists.

Either way would be good to know what we have to do to get in the league.

Suspect we will end up the best supported team in the Champ 1 this year so should help our casue.

How long have you been watching the game? You can't really think that. It's what everyone would like, but come into the real world here!!!!!!

Two teams will be relegated next season.
Toulouse are still exempt so it could be that the team finishing above them will be relegated
The only teams certain  to go up are the league champions and grand final winners and only then  if they fit the criteria that is  laid down, otherwise they wont go up either,
some of the criteria  to be met is the ground must have minimum of 500 seats  in grandstand
and floodlights up to a certain standard

They're talking about maybe having 14 teams in the Championship next year, so that would mean 3 additional teams.  If 2 were relegated, that would mean 5 additional teams from Champ 1 - which aint going to happen.
I reckon there'll be no relegation this year and 2 or 3 teams will be admitted to the Championship from Champ 1.  If 3 are admitted, the Champ 1 Grand Final will be a meaningless event.
There are also question marks as to whether Toulouse will be in the Championship in 2012.  The novelty has well and truly worn off and their inclusion costs thousands to the RFL who subsidise travelling costs for UK clubs.  They are also struggling on the field this season and their crowds have bombed to well below 1,000 (as far fewer fans are making the trip over the channel to supprt their team).

Fair comment.

I really don't know how Championship 1 will play out in 2012.  IMO Champ 1 is the weakest it's been in many years this season and skimming off the best 2/3 teams for 'promotion' in 2012 and admitting 2/3 current amateur/conference clubs will reduce the quality ever further.

There's quite a few sides in CH 1 that are not much better than some of the amatuer clubs in the area. How they get by infront of 2/300 fans I will never know.

The RFL are looking at making the Championship stronger whilst using the C1 to bed in expansionist teams such as Hemel Stags and Coventry Bears.

Wether or not the RFL will want 3 Cumbrian teams in the Championship? Im not sure?

The RFL have offered any of the current crop double the funding at the proposed Championship level (alot more than is currently on offer) for 3 years and a guaranteed place in the competition. With a new stadium on the horizon and Barrow pushing for SL inclusion as a Cumbrian franchise (utter rubbish) this could be the 'get rich quick' scheme Haven/Town have been waiting for.

It would certainly knock Barrow down a peg or 2 in the pecking order!

You were a top side by spending too much money and the going bankrupt.  How good would Whitehaven had been if they had spent the same amount of money as other teams did and stuck within ther salary cap?

Like Castleford did the year they beat us in the grand final.

I'll say it agian if if get the new stadium approved, have the higest average attendance, make the play off from minus 9 ,  have  the best youth , reserve and communty systems in championchip 1 and better than 75% of the league above I can not see how the RFL can jsutify keeping Haven out.

The success of the team this year just supports our case further but should not make or break it.

If results are anything to go by we have the best youth structure outside Super League.

Even after administration we a light years ahead of Town.
