It's a proposal that clubs wll have to vote on. However one thing to note is that is says 'Championships' grouped as 1 category, whereas all the other leagues are split out. Not sure why it doesn't say Championship and then underneath it Championship 1. So it still isn't totally clear even from that diagram.

But it does say 22 teams, thus indicating that teams would not be removed or sent to another league.

It just seems odd that it isn't split out. Especially as this is a hierarchy diagram. We all know that Championship 1 is lower down the tree than Championship. That diagram implies that the exact structure of the 'Championships' is yet to be determined.

Maybe the RFL have finally decided that teams can't
Survive on only 10 home league games and are going to merge the divisions into one and get shot of the national rail cup??? Makes more sense to me giving all teams much more guaranteed income.

Currently there are 11 teams in the Championship and 10 teams in Champ1 - making 21 in total.

Don't rule out another French club becoming the 22nd team.

My cock-up, I forgot about South Wales Scorpions (like most of the Welsh public !).

On the subject of a West/East Division (similar to NFL), I don't think there are enough teams west of the pennines to do this.  Even fewer if/when Widnes go into SL and Wakefield/Cas drop down.

Barrow
Haven
Town
Leigh
Swinton
Oldham
Widnes

Even if you include S. Wales, Skolars and Toulouse that's still 1 short.  Plus, out of that list, there'd be 4 Championship teams and 6 Champ 1 teams.

Rochdale! There now you are no longer one short!

"Flannerz" It does state "Championship's" in the plural, which to me suggests more than one Championship League, or not?

Agreed, I'll go with you on that one. Although maybe a shake-up of some sort? Still not sure how else they could do it apart from on region but I don't think that would work.

On the RFL website it does state, "The third tier below Super League and the Championships (plural), the National Leagues, will be split geographically into North and South regions into whicj 9 Regional Leagues will feed".

Further on it says, "All clubs will be assessed across a range of criteria to ensure they meet minimum standards which relate to the tier in which they operate."

It adds, "This structure which embraces both the professional and community levels of the game is designed to achieve more attendances, viewers, participants and income for the whole sport".     I fail to see how just adding a lower section to a pyramid will increase attendances further up when the  number of games will obviously not increase with two Championships!!
