Whitehaven Rugby League are delighted to announce the signing of Italian international utility back Jake Maizen on a 12 month deal for the 2024 season.

Maizen who started for the Azzuri in the Rugby League World Cup held in England in 2022 signs from Halifax Panthers where he made 19 appearances for Fax scoring 8 tries including 2 on his debut. He also made 2 appearances for Hunslet on loan in July.

Maizen made his Italian debut in the first group game of the World Cup scoring a hat-trick against Scotland in a 28-4 victory and went out to score four tries in three games as the Italians bowed out in the group stage.

Speaking about signing for Haven Maizen spoke saying “I’m grateful for the opportunity the club has put in front of me and excited to see where this group of lads can end up. Speaking with Jonty and the board, Whitehaven feels like the right place for me to come and enjoy my footy again. I’m hopeful we can push for finals in the upcoming season and I’m keen to give my all to help achieve that. Very excited to meet all the fans. Go Haven!”

Haven head coach Jonty Gorley admitted to jumping at the signing of Maizen once he knew he was available saying “When I heard that Jake might be available I jumped at the chance to speak to him. I knew of Jake a couple of years ago and watched him in the world cup for Italy.
What excites me about him is the pace he's got along with an evasive running game. He's dangerous everytime he carries the ball. These qualities will only add to the squads potential as we lacked a bit of pace last year in certain areas, so when my outsides backs break in our own half I'd like to think they could finish, I think Jake will give us that threat along with a couple of other players.
Jake can play centre, wing and full back and has even played in the halves before, so he'll definitely add quality and competition to the squad.”

He should stay here with his fellow Aussie friends playing every week. Bradford sign whoever they want it seems.

can’t blame him been offered 3 times the money he’s getting here ! also heard the club have not even started to talk to players regarding next season etc hence they are seeking to secure their future elsewhere!  mark my words some oof the players will end up at town not just players either

We haven’t even played  half a season why would we be sorting things already? Maybe another few months yes but not now Jake is class he knows he’s wanted here if he leaves we can’t do anything about it we have him a chance when he wasn’t in favour at fax hopefully he will see the grass isn’t always greener

we should be tying players down now for next season as it’s now the time agents are swooping! i know those up the way are swooping around our squad?

We can’t tie players down if we haven’t got the money. They would probably want a incentive payment to sign years in advance, and we probably can’t afford to, hence if we have a coach change (If) then will new coach want a say in recruitment, plus we probably won’t know what division we will be in till late on in the season.

Is that the same town who you said are definitely getting promoted this season . You've put the mockers on them lost every game since you said that and will get tanked next 2 games. Getting worse crowds than us they'll struggle to make play offs yet you reckon they'll raid all our players
