Whitehaven Rugby League have today made the following statement across following Sunday’s match vs Barrow

“The club would like to make the following statement following Sunday’s match vs Barrow at The Ortus Rec

We can confirm the club have been cited for a person verbally abusing the Ref. The person in question has been brought in for a chat and has been banned for a period of time from attending home and away games. One of the touchjudges was also subjected to homophobic abuse. The perpetrator of this abuse has not been identified but if anyone in attendance on the popular side has knowledge of who it was then the BoD would appreciate information.

We appreciate fans can get emotional at certain aspects of the game but we as a Board cannot condone such behaviour. The Club are currently meeting all challenges thrown our way but this is an unnecessary event to have to deal with, and severely damages our reputation as a club. Events like this also impact on our sponsors and potential sponsors. Thank you for your understanding on this matter.”

Some folk need to remember if there's no officials then there's no game.

Shocking behaviour if the crack is true the person needs banned for life and some family members too ! As they were hearing abuse to officials and barrow players! And I believe the culprits son is a member of the local refs society

If the club stewards did their job and moved round the crowd instead of standing in the same space having a craic with each other then they might catch the perpetrators  or have them pointed out by concerned individuals who are invariably ignored when raising a concern anyway.

If it's a girl they're naming her Sigourney after an actress, if it's a boy the 're naming him Rodney after Dave

Why should he?  Nowadays door/security staff should already be fully versed in their responsibilities and ability to carry out the duties they are paid to do.

Huddling in one area getting free viewing of the match AND getting paid is not acceptable.  They are paid to do a job which they are clearly not doing.  The Club MUST ensure they are spread out accordingly and act upon any misdemeanours  as quickly as possible.  This training should be provided to get their SIA badges/registration and further training should not be necessary.  Getting paid for sweet FA!

For what it's worth, the offender should be banned for LIFE, not a number of games.  The same treatment for the disgusting individual who subjected the Touch Judge to homophobic abuse.   Rotten to the core.

To be fair the fella who as been banned is well known for never shutting up for 80 mins all in good banter . But I've never once heard him say out malicious and it's his grandson who's a member of the local refs . The ref was from workington and probably knew them .

Because if you have the experience to help out your club and better the spectator experience then why not?
Anyhoo that’s bye the bye as we have had a couple of PMs and it’s not possible
