You can apply the the 'fair weather supporter' argument to every club in the land. Where were all the Blackpool supporters before they got promotion to the Premier league? They certainly didn't have a full house every week thats for sure. People want to associate with success, always have done, always will - because when you are successful you are watching talent week in and week out, players who are confident at the top of their game, entertaining the PAYING public. We weren't getting that last season, and thats why I stayed away - because I thought I was being cheated.
As for loyalty, I wouldn't mind seeing it from a few of the players who enjoyed the good times and who now want to walk away. This loyalty thing is a 2 way arrangement in my opinion.

I'm far from being a true fan but everyone should realise modern sport is all about money.
To have a winning team, playing good rugby/football etc then the clubs have to pay extra to have the better players.  If fans don't go, then the clubs can't afford to pay for the better players and the team loses more games.  If more fans feel that the team isn't good enough to support then the money available to pay on players reduces even more.
The boards then have to decide whether they should gamble on paying money out on players and hope that the team wins enough games to get the fickle fans/customers through the turnstiles.
This is where clubs become unstuck if the numbers coming through the turnstile reduces rather than increases.
