Boxer, after 63 years of doing it I would love to be able to say I want to watch Town playing in Workington for many many years to come and once again reach the pinnacle of RL in our country. However, I am a realist and instead of being selfish and greedy for my own benefit I want to see something more substantial for the kids and grandkids of people who post on here.
That is never going to be possible with two lower league clubs not even if they get to the top of the Championship again, like Haven, for people at Fev, Barrow and Halifax are also asking - we won the league so what, where now, where are we going? The answer is nowhere and as a result people are walking away from lower league RL. If you cannot see that then you really are blinkered.
Super League licences are only handed out every 3 years and for a club to get in another has to be relegated and after this year how many do you see in there that will be relegated in the future? So SL is a no go area for either of our clubs on their own. The only chance of any SL coming to west Cumbria is by a new club and a combined support from both our connurbations.
If, and it is a big If, Pow Beck ever does get built and a franchise offered to west Cumbria would MR Raaz and his board of directors disband and allow a new club to take up the offer at the Pow Beck Stadium? They would have to do that otherwise it would just be Whitehaven (2010) under another guise, wouldn't it? Doesn't the business plan for the stadium give proceeds to your new company? So, that would never work, would it?
Sadly, there are some people from Workington, who still live in the olden days like yourself Boxer, who wont go to the Rec and that is why it has to be somewhere away from both towns if it is to succeed. However, I have often been to the Rec to follow Haven in the past so that has never been a problem to me if that what you were getting at?
